      Home Blessing

        Birkat Bayit

The Birkat Habayit (home blessing) is perhaps the most popular supplication in the Jewish world, appearing as a hanging amulet inside the entrance of many houses of Jews of all streams. Numerous variations appear today. The provenance and original authorship of the formula is unknown.

In the home, the Birkat Habayit is traditionally hung on the wall next to the front door or next to a window: it is meant to drive any evil spirits out of the house and protect the occupants within. Besides bringing a blessing upon the home, variations from around the world are also seen and are often given as housewarming gifts.

Beautiful and elegant, each one of my pieces is handmade with care and love using the intricate technique of quilling; using thin, often colorful, strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and then glued together to create beautiful designs.
